I love photographing New York elopements and intimate weddings!
Elopements are rising in popularity and have changed a lot in recent years.
Years ago they were stereotyped as secretive weddings where the couple runs off to get married.
Today, that is not the case.
Elopements and intimate weddings can have as much planning as the couple desires.
Typically they include just the couple and one or two witnesses or perhaps a handful of their immediate family.
Not every bride and groom desires to have a large wedding as well as the expense that goes along with such an event.
Further, if the couple leans towards not wanting to be the center of attention; eloping is the perfect solution for their nuptials.
Photographing elopements in New York can range from pledging your vows at City Hall in New York City to a Montauk beach or as in the case of this photo; Royalton Farms an equestrian community on the North Fork of Long Island.
The bride in this photo actually boards her horse there.
Royalton Farms is an equestrian center complete with an luxurious estate.
The estate has a grand double staircase upon entry and photographic opportunities abound both indoors and outdoors.
The wedding took place indoors in between the double staircase.
Afterwards we utilized the stunning architecture and grounds for photos and of course included her beloved horse.
One of the things that I love most about photographing elopements is that the couple truly focuses on their union.
If the couple wants lots of creative portraits amid nature and architecture without the pressure of a wedding day schedule it allows us to take our time and create artful images.
It is important to check if the location that you want to get married at requires a permit as well as a site fee.
I am hoping to photograph more elopements in the future!
I've said it before and it bears repeating, I have never met a bride that regretted having an intimate wedding or elopement.
However, I have heard numerous regrets about having a large wedding with a large bridal party.
Sometimes these decisions are made due to family pressure or expectations.
I say, follow your heart; especially when it comes to what will be one of the happiest days of your lives.
